Yesterday I explored the new neighborhood and tried out Mile End, a Montreal Jewish deli around the corner from me. They feature smoked meats (which is essentially the Montreal version of pastrami) and all kinds of Jewy fare.

I sat down with one of the owners for a bit and she said while the food is not kosher, there is a focus on sustainability, tradition, and quality community products, which is, in her opinion (and mine), an important manifestation of Jewish values.
